The Ridgway Space to Create, built for Artspace Projects Inc., is a thirty-unit mixed-use, Artist’s affordable live/work apartment project, located in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. Imagine waking up every day in the backdrop of the San Juan Mountains, feeling inspired by the same view that graced the set of the original 1969 True Grit movie starring John Wayne.
Space to Create Colorado, a multi-agency, public-private partnership to drive economic development through the arts in rural communities of the state, will be located on the ground floor.
The $10.8M, 35000-sf, three-story building project was constructed with two-stories of wood frame construction supported by a steel and concrete podium assembly atop load bearing masonry shear walls. The upper portions of the building are winder than the first floor spaces creating exterior spaces and covered at grade parking. The foundations are conventional shallow soil bearing footings supported by Rammed Aggregate Piers.
The building encloses a mix of one- and two-bedroom affordable units in addition to approximately 2,000 square feet of community space. The building also features gathering spaces on both the interior and exterior of the building. There are many opportunities for public art display throughout the building, for the tenants and the community.
The exterior facade includes unique variations of Continuous Insulation and Cementitious Insulated Panels & Bricks, by Dryvit, to modulate the facades to better fit the community context. Check out this video by Dryvit that features this project!
