Drs. Todd and Samuel Shatkin founded Shatkin F.I.R.S.T. with his father, the late Dr. Samuel Shatkin Sr., to train other dentists in the dental implant procedures and to make and sell surgical guide stents, implants, dentures, crowns and other components used in the surgeries. In 2022, they completed a $3.7 million expansion of their current businesses which provided expanded patient care, office, training, and conference spaces.
The two-story, 15000-sf, steel-framed addition to a former church building at 2500 Kensington Ave. allows F.I.R.S.T. to bring in more doctors, nurses, physician assistants and other medical professionals for training in laser treatment and other cosmetic procedures, nutrition counseling, wellness and weight loss.
The building is uniquely shaped with a curving front façade driven by the shape of the road and a driveway pass-thru with a second story bridge overhead and underground tunnel beneath. The tunnel connects the new basement space (carved out of the bedrock) with the existing shallower basement of the original church building. Renovations at all levels of the original church building permitted a seamless interconnection of the new building with the existing facility.
